Falcons Vs. Lions Preview, Pick, Odds – Week 3

Atlanta Falcons Vs. Detroit Lions Preview, Best Bet, Odds

The Atlanta Falcons won a tough game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 17. Now, they have a chance to beat the Detroit Lions in an interesting NFL Week 3 contest. Offensively the Falcons leaned heavily on the run game, with Bijan Robinson racking up 124 yards on 19 carries. Desmond Ridder will need to carry over his performance in the 4th quarter against the Packers to this game to have a chance to match up offensively against the Detroit Lions. Can he do that? Check out my Falcons vs. Lions preview, best bet, and odds to find out.

Falcons Vs. Lions Preview

The Detroit Lions are coming off an overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Jared Goff played well, throwing for 323 yards, three TDs, and one Int. Turnovers killed the Lions, they also had two fumbles lost which proved to be too much and they were unable to beat Seattle.

Looking at my Falcons vs. Lions preview, this game should be a redemption game for the Lions, with the Falcons struggling to stop the Lions’ offense.

Detroit should win this game. They are at home and the Falcons’ offense will not be able to keep up. Detroit has a formidable offense and is top five in passing yards and top 10 in passing TDs so far this season. This is all dependent on Goff, so far this season Goff has taken care of the ball while also being top five in passing yards

Defense is still an issue for Detroit, which is why I believe the spread is -3 for Detroit and not more. However, Detroit is top 10 in rushing yards allowed total, which may provide some resistance to the strong rushing attack from Atlanta.

The only chance the Falcons have in winning this game is maintaining time of possession and successfully running the football. If Desmond Ridder takes care of the ball and Bijan Robinson runs the way he has been, the Falcons have a shot to win this game. The Lions’ defense struggled against Geno Smith and the Seahawks, and it can continue to get exploited. If Ridder can get the ball to his receivers, this game can turn into an offensive battle quickly.

Atlanta will need to keep Aidan Hutchinson in check. He can be a difference-maker and help improve Detroit’s turnover differential. A solid running attack will limit the effectiveness of Hutchinson. Surprisingly, the Falcons are third in passing yards allowed, ranking behind the Cowboys, and Browns, which will make for an interesting matchup between Detroit’s receivers and Atlanta’s secondary. Atlanta sits currently at #3 in yards per game, but I believe this number is inflated by their dominating win over Carolina in Week 1.

Overall, I believe the Lions’ offense will be too much for the Falcons and should easily put up big numbers. I’m going to back them in my Falcons vs. Lions preview. The Falcons will not be able to match up offensively, resulting in some turnovers from Ridder who will be forced to throw the ball more to keep up.
